THE BONE DOME | first ReWilding prototype test

Last week with the help of @ilauraexplora, I ran the first test for a ReWilding light art installation at the Bone Dome site.

The projector performed better than expected and I am beyond excited to continue.

Projections on the Bone Dome will draw on imagery from nearby fossil remains that testify to a mass extinction event whose causes remain unknown. This event roughly corresponds with the initial establishment of permanent human settlements in the Americas some 20,000 years ago. The Bone Dome was formerly part of the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line, a network of radar stations intended to detect a Soviet missile attack.

By projecting fossil imagery from a nearby site onto this structure, I will connect weapons of mass destruction to events of mass extinction. In my opinion willful denial of climate change in the face of a credible threat is the political weaponization of natural resources against humanity.

As a human and environmental advocate I have a responsibility to speak with accuracy.

as an artist I need to be comfortable taking risks and making mistakes.

At times these forces are at odds.

The purpose of this blog is to supplement the images in the gallery without speaking for the work, to share a little of the back story, and provide insight into my artistic motivations.
