The Bone Dome was formerly part of the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line, a network of radar stations intended to detect a Soviet missile attack.
By projecting fossil imagery from a nearby site onto this structure, I will draw a parallel between weapons of mass destruction and those of a mass extinction event.
In my opinion willful denial of climate change in the face of a credible threat, is the political weaponization of natural resources against humanity. See also work from https://www.sherylmareereily.com/#/carbon-bomb/
For the past 18 months I have been working with the owners of the structure @golddaughters, to create an installation on their property.
The Bone Dome will be the test site for the first ReWilding installation prototype. The completed project will utilize 3D mapping to project imagery from the “Boneyard,” a rich neighboring deposit of more than 100,000 fossilized specimens, including remains of woolly mammoths, mastodons, and other mega-fauna.
This past Fall with a generous grant from the Elmer E. Rasmuson Foundation I purchased hardware and equipment, and am currently immersed in acquiring the skills that will shape the visual narrative that is the ReWilding project.
Projections on the Bone Dome will draw spectacularly on imagery from nearby fossil remains that testify to a mass extinction event whose causes remain unknown. This event roughly corresponds with the initial establishment of permanent human settlements in the Americas some 20,000 years ago.
[IMuch of what happens in the creative landscape tracks unseen. The acquisition of skills, hunt for resources and execution of test work, prototypes - requires a rigorous determination and unshakable confidence in one’s ability to capture the imaginary, invert the allegory, and bring the quarry to life. I’m not great at posting updates but rest assured empty space on social media is simply an indication that there is a lot happening elsewhere. Thanks for reading. Sheryl]
